Chama, New Mexico–Day 22 and Counting Down

Our day outing today was Georgia O'keeffe and Ghost Retreat just north of our CG.

If you are in the area, a stop is nice, but unless you are into hiking, horse-back riding, or taking a walking tour and looking at the small museums, you can really you can get a better perspective by reading.

Ok, so, after that we drove north to Chama, NM. Chama is just 8 miles from the Colorado state line. Which I did not know at the time. But we walked around, visited the train depot and even had lunch at a small Mexican/American restaurant.

Anyway, once done it was time to head back, get ready for dinner and prepare to leave in the morning.

I know, I know, sometimes I am very winded and other times very short, either way, I try to leave a little information as to where we have been, and where we ae going. Taking Photos always help, people decide whether or not to visit the places where we have been.

Remember our Rv is 40 Ft., so if we can do it so can you. Sometimes all it takes is a little work on leveling. Remember no tires off the ground.

Santa Fe, NM - Day 24 and Counting

We arrived around 10:30 in Santa Fe. This was after stopping off at a Campground and refueling our propane tank. Let me warn you, when doing this take a close look and do not trust anyone. We were directed around  and got almost in too tight, only to find out the refueling was on our passenger side.

Anyway, to high of price, places charge prices for a free by-product from making gas. Propane was a product that they would burn off. RIP-OFF.

Anyway, we are staying at the Elks Lodge, along with 2 other Rv's. Folks, if you stay at a lodge, DONATE something to these lodges. As some are in dire straights and need all the help they can get. DON"T LEAVE without GIVING SOMETHING.

Remember the creed of the brotherhood.

Off of the rants.

We managed to reach John Kurz and ended up having dinner along with Jennifer and a visiting guest. Lovely time was had by all.

No photos this time around.

Las Vegas New Mexico–25 days to AIBF

We landed at the Elks lodge, spent 2 nights, with full hookups, which all we used was electric. Spent time inside visiting elks, and having good conversation on the future of the Elks.

On Sunday, we spent some of the day, walking around downtown. The early morning is the best to get photos of the area with few people. We found a good coffee shop, just been open over 4 months. Took some good shops of the building and the sculpture in the plaza.

We then went to old town, and repeated the same. Including seeing the train station. Where twice a day a Amtrak stops by to pickup passengers.

As we walked around town, I was able to capture some unique shots:

We definitely will come back, as there are many places we have missed.

On DaRoad to AIBF–26 Days and Counting

We got on the road around 7:24 am, on Sat. morning. We had disconnected water and sewer the night before, and cleaned up around the area. In the morning all we needed to do was, connect the truck, electric, and remove the leveling blocks.

As we were leaving, Susan, Tilly and Dakota were watching the road for me, ensuring I did not make a wrong turn:

We arrived at the Elks Lodge around 10:30 am. just in time for this:

Poker run around town and up to a lake north of town. As we were walking, we met and talked to a few of the people going on the run. We were invited back, to join in with the dinner and fun, but did not quite make it in time.

After settling in – we drove over to a Farmers market we saw coming in:

Once back, and stopping at a DQ, Yes Dakota, we know, a DQ a Day Keeps the Beast a Happy Dog..

Once back at the Rv, we parked, setup and relax for a few minutes, then it was off again.

We had chance upon a Fire Department setup at a park downtown, we were informed Hamburgers were being served around 12:30.

This time it was 5 miles out of town, to take a look at Storrie Lake State park.

As state parks go, this one have reservation sites, dry-camping sites, and a few walk in sites.

Rates are from $8 to $14, very easy and nice spots.

On DaRoad to AIBF–27 and Counting

Our second night here in Tucumcari, and what do we find?
An Elks Lodge, yes, you read it, with 8 Rv sites. Free for Dry Camping, $15 for electric & water 1st night with 2nd night free. Ends are 50 amp, centers 30 amp.  That’ll teach us, not to look first, $15 Vs $56. What a difference. And being an Elks lodge, lot’s of friendly people. Well, next time and there will be a next time, we’ll stay there. Lodge has a pool, sauna and 1/2 court basketball court, too.

We have visited 4 museums in the area, each one is unique and wonderful:

Tucumcari Historic

New Mexico Route 66 Museum

The day before our visit they received the new piece below for the floor:

Can you guess what Year and Model it is?

Dinosaur Museum
Photos were on yesterday's Blog

Railroad Museum.
This is a new museum, only 3 years old, they are still under development. I still recommend a stop here.

Susan wanted a new hair perm:

We also spent time driving and walking in town. We did manage to snap a few photos of uniques items we spied:

Tomorrow or would that be today? We head to Las Vegas, NM., and stay at the Elks Lodge there. Susan does not really like going someplace without a place to stay. So, I believe she has us booked out for the next 5 to 9 days? I’ll see and read about it on her calendar schedule.

So, what can I leave you with? First, Slow Down, Relax, Stop in Small towns and walk around and talk to the locals. It is amazing the things we have learned since we have started doing this.

Ok, now that I got that out of my system:

More photos for Susan's Photo Collage Wall, in the reading room.
So, really what can I leave for you?

Susan:   Ha, Ha, Ha - love that.....
