End of May

Tonight is it, end of May. We started this journey on April 23rd, and here we are just outside of Ocean City, Washington. Our stay will be 4 nights, from 30th of May, to June 2, then it will be time to move on.

I have been remiss, in not posting photos or writing up our stays in the campgrounds. However, if you go to our map, you will see where we stayed, cost and maybe photos of the areas.

As to our Campground:

Our stay here pleasant and wonderful - even if it is cool and windy sometimes on the beach. It is a 1/4 mile walk to the beach, Dakota and Tilly love it. We normally take 2 walks a day, on the beach. Hey what's a little sand in and out of the coach.

Today, we stopped by a wood carving and furniture wood store, a few photos of the items:

Also, if you haven't heard we are going for a new table look.

Check out the Videos of what we are striving for:

We located some redwood, which we are going to take a good look at and see if there is enough to do it. This is will be a long turn project, meaning no 1 or 2 weekends. So, be on the look-out the next time you see us.

The 2 photos above are what we saw today.

We arrived on the 25th of May, early Friday morning, before the big family rush of weekend campers. Remember Memorial Day ?

Since we have been here, we have traveled the road of the longest "Yard Sale", went to Pier 39 (No Rogue),  Climbed the Astoria Column (164 steps), Susan once, me twice (she told me to), Bowpicker for lunch (Off the list now), Costco, Fred Meyer's, North LightHouse, walked many miles on the beach with and without Susan, did the Long Beach down-town scene, visited friends, and other exciting things.

So, keep tuning in and we'll see what other news-worthy items are worthwhile to be published.

Seaview, Washington

Guess, I am a few days behind, so let's catch up as to where we have been.

At last report, we took a hike up in the area of Mount Hood and walked round Vancouver, Wa.

Since then, we stayed at the Elks in Kelso / Longview Cities. Hookups are with water and 30 amps. Oy main reason - Mount St Helens. It has been over 28 years, since the eruption.

Our plan, head up, 56 mile journey from the lodge, stop in at the New Visitors Center (Washington State Park), get information and head up.

Our first hick-up ?

Flat Tire -
We managed to get it change even with missing a park of the jack and the Aluminum Rim, being stuck to the drum. After an hour and a half, we were back on the road and heading up the mountain.

First Stop - Mt St Helens Forest Learning Center

After a short visit and photos it was time to head back up.

Our final stop, Johnston Ridge Observatory.  Where we learn the Visitors center was closed due to power outage. However, everything else was still open including the hiking area.

No animals are allowed up at the top, but can be walked in the lower portion.

We only stayed 1 night in Kelso, awoke early the next day and headed out to Seaview, Wa., across the Columbia River from Astoria, Or.

We met up with Kathy and Wayne over Lunch at the Buoy Beer Restaurant in Astoria, Or.

Since then Susan and I have beer traveling around, stopping in, and visiting unique places such as a the Columbia River Quarantine Station at Knappton Heritage area.

Nice Hike in the Woods

You know one thing about large cities ?      The traffic, cars, and lot's of them. So, being in Vancouver, Wa., I decided we needed a big change up in our setting.

So it was off to Mt. Hood, specifically a hike called the Mirror Lake Trail.

The sign stated 2.1 miles one way, this says a little different. In all it lasted a little less than 2 hours. Once back we headed up to the Timber Lodge, which sits around 5000 ft elevation. From there we sw snow, and some ice climbers coming back down.

Oh, did I forget, we landed at the Elk's Lodge in Vancouver, Wa., nice place, except for I-205 runs next to the lodge. So  be prepared for road noise. For $20, we have 30 amps, water, and we have access to showers inside the lodge.

Once we landed on Tuesday, we headed downtown for  a short walk. As cities go, this one does not really have a good walking area. We did manage to get in a hour walk along the river and a small park where an open air market is held on Saturday's.

Now onto the hard part:
