July 29—has it really been 76 days since our last post? Time flies when you're cleaning up puppy messes.
Do you realize I entirely forgot to invite everyone to Mocha Teal’s 7-month birthday party? My bad. The invitations are in the mail... just consider them extremely early for her next one.
You might be asking yourself, "What did she get for her birthday present?" A brand new, highly sophisticated Hedgehog Toy.
But wait! Her real first birthday present was—wait for it... wait... wait...
Wait, here she comes: Henna Gefeke!
These two will play for hours, and they are incredibly gentle with each other. They willingly share toys, food bowls, and pretty much anything else. It's a level of cooperation that human siblings can only dream of.
Mocha also got to meet her official aunt and uncle: Beata and Rudy.
Mocha absolutely adores Beata and Rudy, and she's on her absolute best behavior around them. Henna and Mocha, along with Beata, have formed an elite walking club, and they are doing fantastic exploring the trails together.
But let's talk about the biggest change around here: Mocha herself. She now weighs a whopping 53 lbs! Because of this sudden growth spurt, she is officially having structural issues fitting under her favorite chair.
(This last photo was taken back in August. As you can see, back then she could easily fit under her chair without needing a search and rescue team!).
Along with Mocha's expanding waistline, we made a massive change at the Happy Cabin here in Show Low.
To keep our growing pup contained, we installed 405 feet of fencing, which includes an impressive collection of custom entryways:
- Split 20-ft RV gate (two 10-ft sections, perfect for when the motorhome rolls in)
- Single 10-ft trailer gate on the north side
- Two 5-ft walkthrough gates along the garage
- One 4-ft walkthrough gate leading straight across the creek and into the forest for easy hiking access
The absolute nicest part of this design? It actually looks great and blends right in with the surrounding forest and the cabin. Now Mocha has a secure kingdom to roam, and the cabin keeps its great aesthetic!
However, our tenants were only going to be here for 4 months, they are now going on 6 months. This prevents us from doing work and improvments inside. They even are willing to leave and locate someplace. Susan and I are not that type, finding place for 3 people, 2 dogs and 4 cars. Even if you could the cost would be just too high.
Susan and i are willing to wait till early spring for the projects.
Safe travels and Journeys

Look forward to meeting her! (The rest of you as well, of course).
