First overnight spot

 This week was it, plan, leave on Thursday, as soon as Dakota staples were removed. Prior to Thursday, clean, move Gus to a different spot. This allowed us to clean and cut the grass. 

Dakota was bored with it all.

As you see, we moved over to the driveway.

Plan a overnight stop in the Town of Mountainair, NM. This would required a distance of about 280 miles. With a stop in Lenitar, NM for refueling. Yes their are photos of Show Low to Mountainair, but they will come later.

Our site for the night - next to a closed funeral home. Not bad, the town is very easy to dry camp. Many places even on main street.

Here it is, Sept 20th., and we are on our way to Albuquerque. This is our 4th year as a Navigator at the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival.
So where are today? We had thought about heading to the Elks lodge in Las Vegas, NM. We love this Elk's, friendly, FHU with 30 amps. But, we said lets go to the state park just a few miles outside of Las Vegas.

Storrie Lake State Park, it has a few 30 amps site along with water, many sites with just water and then the dry camping along the shore line.

Weather has been very helpful, breeze, even though in the low 80's it is very comfortable. We choose a non-electric site, and we have not been sorry. Each morning is a walk, checking out the new sites and photo ops, like these:

 The black line is not a crack in the pavement, that is a very long line of ants, moving to a new home. The line must have stretched at least 25 feet.

Our overnight stop in Raton, I spotted this place on Google maps:

Using Satellite View I found this empty building.

Now, as long as we are in Colorado, specially around Los Animas, Co., we always stop in and see Rose, my ex., but still close friend.
As we drove along this is the first time spied Ladies of the Day waiting:

Then just down the road we saw the well preserve Train Depot.

Our first stop was along a familiar one, taken back in 2013 and 2014, Fort Morgan, Co. We had stopped at the city park in 2013. Well, the park is still there but no overnight parking. We thought we try Walmart in town, Nope not allowed.

I have read about a municipal park in Brush, Co., 7 miles east of Ft. Morgan. We located the Brush Memorial Campground. What was once free for the first night is now $25, but hey 50 amps and water if needed.

Anyway, back to Las Vegas, we have decided to stay here until Monday, where we will head over to Cochiti Lake, a COE CG, where we will stay until time to head in to AIBF, 1st of Oct.

Tas the Artist

We spied a unique place on the way into Columbus on Sat. Both coming into and out of town. So, on Sunday Dakota and I took a hike down to meet Tas the artist.

Tas, is 73, born 1945 and his family emigrated to the USA in 1949 from Germany. He is a retired truck driver and during his travels he would dream up these wonderful creations.

His largest creation started over 7 years ago;

This one represents the woman. The 2 geometric spheres are the Breast and the Center section is the womb. Currently the Center Section is open, but plans are in place to fully close it.

His last creation, he stated took him over 73 years to learn:

Playing Catchup–AIBF

Monday, Oct. 8th, location AIBF Rv park. Southwest corner of Alameda Blvd NE & Balloon Museum Drive NE. Blue Dot represents DaGirls Location:



Susan & I, decided to come in on Wednesday, instead of Thursday along with the Alfa’s caravan. We decided this would make it easier after talking to Mike (team lead of the Rv Park).

Saturday, day 1 of AIBF found us heading south to the North side of White Sands Missile Range, where the first atomic bomb was exploded, “Trinity Site”.

This is one of those items I had wanted to visit. You may think of see a very big hole, crater, but in real time, it is just a shallow small hole in the ground, with a spot marking the crater. However, it is all about the experience of the event.
All I can say? Get there early as the later you go, the bigger the traffic line getting onto the Base.
