Kitimat or Not

This year going to Alaska, we decided to try places off the beaten path. Meaning go someplace else, rather then the normal places. I mean there are only 2 ways to Alaska. But there are are many side trips to be taken.

The first side trip we took was to Fort St. James. Small town, rich in culture and small town flavor. There is even a small campground in town with 50amps, and on the lake. What more can you want.

The second was Prince Rupert, man what fun we had.

The next city is Kitimat. Kitimat is a district municipality in British Columbia, Canada. It is located on the west coast of the province at the mouth of the Kitimat River. The city was planned and built by the Aluminum Company of Canada in the 1950s. The photo shows just the 2 facilities.

Kitimat is known for its world-class fishing, stunning views, majestic wildlife, and endless trails and backcountry. The city is also family-oriented, with great indoor amenities and endless outdoor fun.

Kitimat's name comes from the nearby Haisla community of Kitamaat, and means "people of the snow".

It also has a municipal rv park, Radley. Some sites have limited power. Has a dump, water and sites that we could have fit into. There is a no overnight camping inside of town with signs in place. However that being said we did spy a few places that would work.

The visitor center would be one as long as you leave by 8am. But don't setup till after 5pm.

There are also some rest areas / Pull off's just north of town.

Currently our Starlink is working very well, as you can read our blog.

Located a short walk - about 30 yards was the only running waterfall in the area, Moore's Creek Falls.

No real mayor restaurants around, small ones. So nothing fancy to talk about or go out to eat.

There is also the Giant Spruce Park and Kitimat Museum and Archives.

So, is it worth it taking a different path? You bet, it's all about the adventure. Why follow the same route as everyone takes. Be different and a leap of faith and don't follow the same path as everyone else does. Who knows, just what you may find.

Oh, by the way, the radio/display on our Ford quit all of a sudden on Tue., afternoon.

That being said, Yes our EFS fuel Card does work at Petro-PASS stations only, however, it takes a while to clear the Bank. So, when you go to refuel again, this is what happens; you get a Limit Reached. Not worth the hassle.
