Fort Sill - Lawton Oklahoma

 As Hank would say

"When we went to Lawton in 2019, after the Rally we found 1 RV Park with a Tornado Shelter and Siren, Buffalo Bob's, RV Park. That is where we stayed.

My father was from OK, and I have relatives in OKC. The RV park we stay at there has multiple shelters. They were hit by a major tornado several years ago, shortly after we had been there. Did major damage, but no injuries or deaths, due to shelters. Did remodel the park though. Really cleaned it up.

Lawton in its infinite wisdom a number of years ago gutted the old downtown, Main Street, etc and built a large central mall. Sears, Etc.  In 2019 it was mostly shuttered. Downtown was dead.

Ft. Sill has some interesting museums, but access to Ft. Sill is extremely difficult and limited due to security reasons now. Trying to get in on the spur of the moment was not possible.

Lake Lawtonka is nice, but no Tornado shelters.

Looking forward to the next installment."

Ok, so here is the next one in line.

First access to Fort Sill, to gain access you must stop at the

Fort Sill Visitor Control Center

T6701 NW Sheridan Rd, Lawton, OK 73503.

There you are required to show a Photo ID, along with giving them your SS #. That's it. For the next 24 hrs you are granted just about full access to the base. I do mean full, as Susan & I went just about everywhere we could.

Next there are 1 great museum, 2 parks and 1 cemetery.

US Army Artillery Museum, Missile Park and the Constitution Park, and the Apache Indian Cemetery.

As we walk among the many artillery pieces, I was amazed at the many items which remain in very good condition. Some of which came from various countries from outside the United States.

The museum, has some of the best preserved items from the revolutionary and Civil war. The museum also has 1 of the remaining ENIAC machines.

The museum is free and relies only on donations.

Here's a american history question, no looking up on the internet or asking your grandchild.

Who was Paul Revere and what was he famous for? Answer will be reveled on the next blog. You can either send an email or post your answer on the blog at the bottom of it.

Ok on with the Show:

Anyway that's it for now, as our location is now good for fast internet.
