Heading North Again

Location: North of the US/Canadian Border along hwy 3. Hwy 3 is along the route from Haines, Ak. (Being mile 0), to Haines Junction, YT. (Being mile 146). It all depends on your staring point. We elected to stop north of Haines, around mile 100. The Yukon Government campground is called the Million Dollar Falls. The story goes that a facility was built with barracks, showers, toilets with running water, during the 40’s, when construction was proceeding on the Alaskan Hwy. That’s the story and the book is keeping to it. Well, either way, we have spent a few nights in the Yukon campgrounds and the only think I have to say is this. I wish I had my sledge hammer along with splitting maul. Every Canadian Park we have stayed in, has an abundance of fire wood. The only thing missing or needed, is the wood needs to be split, making it easily to be burned in my opinion.

Additional Info on the Campground

Sites are large, but are back in, we elected to park as you see in the photo. Since the area was large, and the campground was not filled up.

What makes this call the Million Dollar Falls CG are the photos below. Dakota loves water falls, rivers and lakes. Once she knows they are around, she is happy to lead the way to an entrance.

Now, the only downside to British Columbia and Yukon is the lack of cell phone service. Let’s get serious, many people need to have internet service, and would never think to stop and enjoy the night time. Hum, 0400 and it is daylight outside.

Ok, yes, we have Starlink, however being this far north, there are times of interruptions in service. In fact, right now, the system has been put away. This will allow us to leave when we have had our coffee, Dakota and Tilly fed and walked.

Yes Starlink has made blogging possible and allowed us to maintain contact with family and friends. But that being said, I am typing this when the system put away. Susan will read a book, research or even do a puzzle.

Ok, so I leave with photos, taken along Hwy 3, north to Haines Junction and of the Campground. We hope you enjoy the show, but mainly, we hope you enjoy the journeys we are traveling. And Someday, maybe you too, will endeavor to not only travel, but to stop along the many places and seek out new and exciting things.

Ran out of time and room, photos along the way at a later date

  1. I'm enjoying your trip reports. I may put an Alaska adventure back on the list, but we generally don't travel with the motorhome during the summer. There are too many things to do at home on the lake. Today, I hope to get the boat in the water.
