Standin on the Corner in Winslow Az - 2014

Well, we were on Interstate 40 East Bound, and what did we  see but a ..................town called Winslow.

Dare say Winslow is a quaint little town, with about 90 trains going thru each day. Boy talk about a lotta of trains. Well we needed a place to stay so we parked ourselves at the local Elk's Lodge for the night ($10 Donation-Electric only). Since we needed a few items and it being Easter Sunday and all (no stores open) we rode our bikes down to the local Wal-Mart for a few items. This is the only Wally World that is on Indian Reservation Land. 

Anyway,  back to our story, on our way to WW, we came across this funny lookin sign in a yard. Saying "Camel Crossing.  Now what the heck do you think a camel would be doing in Winslow.

It seems he came up from Phoenix....you see he needed a little R&R, but alas he decided he liked it in Winslow and now he staying here for good.

While walking around we spied this old catholic church down the street.

And with some pretty impressive signs on the buildings.

Being that I was born on the 20th of April to Mrs Beatrice and Mr Errett Prichard, Sunday was my B-day. I turned 63 that day. So, Susan being Susan off we went to a 5-star dinner in Winslow. What! you didn't know Winslow had a 5-star restaurant? Do a search for La Posada in Winslow, it will impress you. 

 After a good salad what else is wanted but lovely company.

While walking around we spied the famous wall, what secrets were lurking behind this wall?

Well, it's late and we have to get home as we have a long drive tomorrow, but it wasn't a flatbed ford that slow down lookin at us.

Nice Drive to Parker Dam

Saturday brought forth another beautiful day in Az. Susan and I decided to take a drive along the river up to the Parker Dam.

Along the way we spotted this sign alongside the road. We thought it was neat so we just had to take a photo.

Now our expectations were riding high as we traveled along the road, expecting to see some of the furry 4 legged creatures. We weren't disappointed !

We spotted this one as we drove, hoping to catch a good shot. But alas, just got a front and then rear end.

But as we drove a little further look what we see!

A Wink and a Nod hoping for some carrots.  Wish we had some with us!  Saw several other groups of burros as we continued our drive on the California side of the Colorado River back to Parker.

A day in the life of Susan and Dale

Well it was bound to happen, Susan & I have started to blog again. We are going to play catch up with where we been and where we are going. Currently we are in the La Paz County Park, located on the Colorado River just above Parker, Az.

At this time of year many sites are open including sites with river view. Our plan is to stay for the Blue Grass Festival (sat).

Susan and I decided to take the kayaks out this morning for a view from the river.

Along the river we spotted the Roadrunner Bar & Grill. Where we had dinner last night.

We paddled to the far side of the river and crossed into California.

Now let's back track a little to earlier in the week when we kayaked in the Martinez lake area. This is just above Yuma about 20 miles.

Along the way we went thru the US Army Yuma Proving Grounds where we caught this paratrooper landing.

Saguaro Lake Arizona

David and I played hooky on Friday and took the Kayaks out to  Saguaro Lake. While we were there we enjoyed a peaceful time on the lake.   Not much happened except for some nice photos

Della and Tilly Da Girls Rv

One of Della's Highlights is seeing cow # 3041.  3041 is a one of the 4H cattle on site. When we first met 3041, we were walking around the corral. There happens to be about 10 head of cattle here. As it happen when we got closer to the fence, one of the cattle started running and kicking its' rear feet at it came hopping towards us. 

This was all due to Della. The closer Della got, the happier 3041 seemed to be. So every time we walk  Della near the barnyard, 3041 would come running over.   As 3041 came over it would put its head between the rails and snort very loudly. You could here it sucking in the air and trying to smell what she was.  Was she a baby, another cattle or a long lost sister? Well it was bound to happen as Della and 3041 kept coming together, in between 2 of the photos when the camera was not ready.  I missed the shot of 3041 and Della kissing.   Both of their tongues touched at the same time.

So as we left, heading back to our home, 3041 remained at the fence sadly watching us head home.

Well it has been awhile since we have posted anything. So I thought I'd gather a few photos of the operation and such here at Sunshine Acres. The first photo shows the drop off area where donations are dropped off and then shuffled off to sorting.

Usually someone is on hand to sort the items into smaller groups.

Once the big sorting is done the boxes are then moved to a waiting area before moving inside.

 Don't asked me why, but only women can work in the sorting area

We have worked hard with Bryan in setting up a consistent area for sorting. This area seems to work the best.

Then I just got tired of helping and ran off to play golf down at Vistal in Phoenix. This  was the old Thunder Bird GC. Big changes since then. Including where 52 bunkers were removed to help speed up play.

So, since I just happen to be in the area, can you guess where I stopped?

Came back to work on Monday and it looked like a big storm hit the area on Saturday. 

So much stuff was dropped off they had used every container to put the stuff in.

I am glad to say, we had the "A" team on Monday and by the time we left there were only 6 boxes that needed to be sorted. What a team.

Finally, since Susan ran away to Chicago, to see the Fam, I ran away to the lower Salt River with the Kayak.
