Marfa Texas

Marfa is a city in the high desert of the Trans-Pecos in far West Texas, United States, between the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park, at an elevation of 4685 feet. It is the county seat of Presidio County, and its population as of the 2020 United States Census was 1,788. The city was founded in the early 1880s as a water stop; the population peaked in the 1930s and has continued to decline each decade since. However, today Marfa is a tourist destination and a major center for minimalist art. Attractions include Building 98, the Chinati Foundation, artisan shops, historical architecture, a classic Texas town square, modern art installments, art galleries, and the Marfa lights. (As Always wikipedia is a good resource).

Even though it was still windy, I chance a Walk-A-Bout through town. I usually find something either unique or fun photos shoots. The first 3 photos, even close up, is very hard to say what is was. If I have to guess, possible a hay bailer.

As I walked around I though of Steve, Tony and a few others of my Army Friends

From there it was a Sprit Store -

The next 3 are Photos of St. Paul Episcopal Church

Anyway, we are currently in Presidio, Tx. I will update you of aother unique places we visited on Tuesday.

We left Boerne Rv, and made plans to return on Monday the 6th of May, to complete the installation of the new Leveling System.

We left Boerney, around 5 pm and headed to Round Rock. A community just Northeast of Austin. We located a city park called:  Old Settlers Rv park. This is a no frills park with FHU with 30 or 50 amp spots. Sites are close, much closer than we like but our slide is out and we can do laundry. We landed around 7:45 pm, enough time to settle in and get level.

In the morning Dakota and I went for our morning walk-a-bout. I met a lady who took some photos of us. We chatted for a while and she informed me of the Texas State Cemetery. And we all know me and cemeteries: I just can't go by without seeing them. And this is one that is very well taken care of.

Our walk about:

Our first stop in Austin - Presidential Library - Time

The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, also known as the LBJ Presidential Library, is the presidential library and museum of Lyndon Baines Johnson, the 36th President of the United States (1963–1969). It is located on the grounds of the University of Texas at Austin, and is one of 13 Presidential Libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration. The LBJ Library houses 45 million pages of historical documents, including the papers of President Johnson and those of his close associates and others.

Texas State Cemetery (No pets allowed).

Is a cemetery located on about 22 acres (8.9 ha) just east of downtown Austin, the capital of the U.S. state of Texas. Originally the burial place of Edward Burleson, Texas Revolutionary general and Vice-President of the Republic of Texas, it was expanded into a Confederate cemetery during the Civil War. Later it was expanded again to include the graves and cenotaphs of prominent Texans and their spouses.

The cemetery is divided into two sections. The smaller one contains around 900 graves of prominent Texans, while the larger has over 2,000 marked graves of Confederate veterans and widows. There is room for 7,500 interments; the cemetery is about half full, after including plots chosen by people who are eligible for burial.

Burial guidelines
The guidelines on who may be buried within the Texas State Cemetery were first established in 1953, and are currently set by Texas state law. Currently, all persons to be buried in the cemetery must be one of the following:[1]
  • A former member of the legislature or a member who dies in office.
  • A former elected state official or an official who dies in office.
  • State official appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Legislature who served at least 10 years in the office. After September 1, 2015, this criterion may be used only upon approval of the State Cemetery Committee if it finds the official made a significant contribution to Texas history.[2]
  • Individual designated by governor's proclamation, concurrent resolution of the Legislature, or order of the State Cemetery Committee; but only after approval of the committee if it finds the individual made a significant contribution to Texas history. The statute as written permits the committee to deny burial under this criterion even if requested by the governor or Legislature.
  • The spouse of anyone meeting the above criteria.
  • The child of an eligible member, but only if he or she was dependent on another due to a long-standing physical or mental condition during the lifetime of one of the child's parents.

One other stop was to the "The Container Store". Yea found one outside of Austin. Many of you have seen my storage compartment layout. I starter this layout in 2013 in our 2003 Alfa SeeYa, and continued using the containers in our 2008. We 3 of the 4 containers have been affected by the sun light and the fronts are cracking. So with a store close by I was able to replace the, front set.

Image of the containers:

What I like about these containers, are this: 2 different sets, but the only difference is the height. So you can mix and match.

Ok, so this is enough of this - I will post a photo of the new replacement set and layout later.
