Next Stage of Traveling

Ok, we have been staying at the Elks Lodge for 2 nights. Susan and I are planning our next small move. This also includes the timing.

Timing, you ask? well somewhere in Aug., heading to Valdez and how to get there.

Today, we will be leaving Palmer and make a stop in Anchorage for a quick purchase and then head down the Seward Hwy, with a side trip to an old mining town name of Hope.

The Hope Highway is the only way into and out of Hope, Alaska. The turnoff for the Hope Highway is 22 miles south of Portage Glacier Road and 19 miles north of the junction with the Sterling Highway and Alaska Route 9. It's another 20 miles to the town of Hope.

Hope is a great detour on your way to or from other cities on the Kenai Peninsula such as Seward and Homer. You can stop for a short leg stretch and meal, or spend a night here if your Alaska itinerary affords you that time.

Hope is a historic gold mining town in Alaska. It's located 87 miles south of Anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula. The population was 192 in 2010.
Hope is known for the Resurrection Pass Trail, a 39-mile route that was originally carved by prospectors on their way to the goldfields of Hope. Today, it is one of the most popular trails on the Kenai Peninsula for hikers, backpackers, and mountain bikers.

Hope is a great detour on your way to/from other cities on the Kenai Peninsula such as Seward and Homer. You can stop for a short leg stretch and meal, or spend a night here if your Alaska itinerary affords you that time.

There is a state park at the end along with a Cabin & Rv camp. However making reservation are a little difficult. So, it is a short 40 miles, we'll see what we can find. As long as we can locate a pullout, we should be ok.

Once back on Da Road, it will be onto Seward I believe Susan has laid out.

Word is out -

Well the secret is out. We are on our way to Skagway, Ak. Yes, Susan scored us a ferry ride from Skagway to Haines. We tried this in 2015, however the ferry, required maintenance and our ride was cancelled. This time all the stars fell into line. In the mean time, when we left Whitehorse, we needed a place to stay instead of coming right into Skagway.

The place we choose was Conrad Campground.

Conrad Campground is a campground in the Yukon Territory, Canada. It's located on the shores of Tagish Lake, about 9.5 miles out of Carcross on the road to Skagway Alaska.

The campground has 29 campsites, including two pull-throughs. It also has a kitchen shelter with a fire stove, pit toilets, picnic tables, and a playground.

As you can see Dakota love this place. One trip to the beach, and each time she came out, she headed back down the road to the beach. Along with the beach, there are 2 hikes which are easy, to take.
