Next Stop: Sauk Centre, MN

Next Stop: Sauk Centre, MN – Home of Sinclair Lewis

Our journey brought us to the town of Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and we’re currently camped at the Sinclair Lewis Campground — a peaceful spot nestled along Sauk Lake. It’s a small city campground with big charm. Susan did most of the driving along Interstate 94, and the trip was smooth, with wide-open skies and plenty of rolling farmland to keep the view interesting.

Once we arrived, Susan managed to snag us a site right on the water — a rare and appreciated treat. The sites are nicely spaced, well-maintained, and offer 50-amp electric and water. There are quite a few seasonal campers here, which gives the place a lived-in, neighborly feel. It’s obvious this is a favorite weekend spot for many Minnesotans.

After setting up, we took a slow walk through the campground and along the lake. A few kids were fishing off the dock, while others were paddling kayaks or just floating near the shoreline. It’s the kind of place where time seems to move a little slower — a good reminder to do the same.

We made our way into downtown Sauk Centre, which still holds the character and charm of a classic Midwest town. The downtown area includes a few shops, a historic movie theater, and the Sinclair Lewis Boyhood Home.

Back at camp, the evening gave us one of those golden, glowing sunsets that reflects off the lake and makes you pause. The morning brought the sun peeking through the trees and then coming over the horizon, as see by the photos.

Reflections:
This stop reminded us again why we love this life — the freedom to wander, to find these small, often-overlooked places, and to just be in them. Every campground tells a story. And sometimes, when you’re lucky, the town tells one too.

The afternoon brought showers, which were very brief. That brough the walk through the park again with some unusual sites:

Our walk and drive thru the town and country side, brought about some interesting photos shoots:

As we continued our journey, we spied a few interesting things:

Well it's time to wrap this up, as we are in travel mode tomorrow morning. We are heading to Fargo, ND. Where we have places to go, things to see and people to meet. So, we will leave you with this:
