Wind and More Wind

By the way, thanks for all the replies, even the ones from anonymous - there seems to be many.

A quick update, we left Clovis, NM after 1 day instead of the 2 on our plan. Due to location of the park, the train noise was getting worst and the prospect of driving in high winds made it worth the departure.

Since then, the morning were ok, but by 1 Pm the high winds and gust upto 45 Mph. Due to the dust and low visibility, staying inside, is a smart idea.

We made a short trip to Palo Dura Canyon with the girls.

I have started back to walking around the area early in the mornings.

When we arrived here in Amarillo, Tx. We started with paying for 2 days here at the Elk's lodge, with the intend to staying an additional night. We decided to relocate to Lawton, Ok. today. So, if you look at the US hwy 60 map, you'll see us zizzing down. Not to worry, Susan and taken over planning, as I have no plan. Except ?

jeff is running, jogging, and walking his race near dallas-ft worth. Carry the Load.

By the way, Dakota is getting better each day. Most of the time, she is no longer limping, but we are careful in how long and how many walks she goes on.

Blue Star Memorial

What else would I be Blogging about on Memorial Day

General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark
The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark is a retired supersonic, medium-range, multirole combat aircraft. Production variants of the F-111 had roles that included ground attack (e.g. interdiction), strategic bombing (including nuclear weapons capabilities), reconnaissance and electronic warfare. Developed in the 1960s by General Dynamics, the F-111 entered service in 1967 with the United States Air Force (USAF). The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) also ordered the type and began operating the F-111C variant in 1973.

The F-111 pioneered several technologies for production aircraft, including variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbofan engines, and automated terrain-following radar for low-level, high-speed flight. Its design influenced later variable-sweep wing aircraft, and some of its advanced features have since become commonplace. The F-111 suffered a variety of problems during initial development.

A fighter variant, the F-111B, was not accepted for production. The F-111B was intended to perform aircraft carrier-based roles with the US Navy, including long-range interception.

USAF F-111s were retired during the 1990s with the F-111Fs in 1996 and EF-111s in 1998. The F-111 was replaced in USAF service by the F-15E Strike Eagle for medium-range precision strike missions, while the supersonic bomber role has been assumed by the B-1B Lancer. The RAAF continued to operate the type until December 2010, when the last F-111C was retired.

The name Aardvark was derived from perceived similarities of the aircraft to the animal of the same name: a long nose and low-level, terrain-following capabilities. The word aardvark originated in the Afrikaans language, as a contraction of "earth-pig", and this was the source of the F-111's nickname of "Pig", during its Australian service.

Unexpected Stop

Ok, let's continue, with our journey. We left our funeral home and transition back onto US Hwy 60. Now some people would just head north and grab an Interstate Hwy, but not us.  We prefer the lesser known roads. Fewer cars, & trucks and smaller towns. Each one with a unique favor.

Our journey today was purely by accident. All due to Susan seeing a sign of a town called Yeso, NM. I am very serious, about this. You blink and it is gone. You passed it, knowing left to see and you drive thru. However Susan, mention something and next thing, she was pulling over. This would allow a short walk for Dakota & Tilly and me to grab some shots.

I menton, Susan saw a sign.

Then I spied the Post Office - New Vs Old

Other then the remaining buildings was in the construction of the building or what was left of them.

As I walked back to Gus, Susan and DaGirls were walking outside. Once back in, Houston we have an issue.

We have explained to Dakota many times. We no longer allow our pets to drive.

Now you maybe wondering, there were only 2 additional building. Both of them were small homes. And yes, they both looked like someone was living in them.

And I am NOT talking about the tumbleweeds.

This is All for now.

First overnight spot

This week was it, plan, leave on Thursday, as soon as Dakota staples were removed. Prior to Thursday, clean, move Gus to a different spot. This allowed us to clean and cut the grass.

Dakota was bored with it all.

As you see, we moved over to the driveway.

To see our plan route, see the map on the right side. US-Hwy-60 route.

Plan a overnight stop in the Town of Mountainair, NM. This would required a distance of about 280 miles. With a stop in Lenitar, NM for refueling. Yes their are photos of Show Low to Mountainair, but they will come later.

Susan got carried away as you can see

As we were walking around town

Our site for the night - next to a closed funeral home. Not bad, the town is very easy to dry camp. Many places even on main street.

There are many other photos of Mountainair, but they will come later.
