Canada's No Sense Approach or Day 17

Ok, let me start with Canada Common Sense approach. We have landed back at Swan Lake Campground in Fraser Lake, BC. As luck would have it we scored #1, Venable's scored #2. And right know Jeff is using a hammer and pounding on something metal.

Anyway, let's get back to the common sense approach. Notice the photos below? Well there is a dock that was rehabilitated back to it's glory in 2005. As you can see Dakota and I walked on it to the end. This is similar to 2015 where it was Susan, Tilly Della and me. At the end of the dock is a ramp leading down to the water. What they did was put 2, 2x10 to block the entrance down. Notice how easy it would be to climb over.

Now in the states, they would install a 10 ft chain link fence, along with cameras, alarms and what not. Well here in BC, check the final photo. Canadians figure if you don't have enough sense then it is not their issue. They warned you.

I call this pretty funny.

Anyway, let's carry on with the report as to how and why we got where we are. The last one sent out we were in Jasper, AB, staying at a National Park exactly 2 spaces from 2015, except this time, it was calving season. The females were off somewhere doing their birthing and we did not see too many elks.

On the Saturday we arrived we droved into town, stopped had dinner with a lovely couple from Ontario who invited us to share their table.

Prior to dinner, we spied a car show taking place, which gave us a few photo ops. 

The next day, Sunday, we boarder the SkyTram and went to the top of the Mountain for some amazing views and Brunch.

Sunday night, wait, there is no night. At 10pm it's the same as 5pm. Anyway, goal is to get up early and head to Prince George. Where we will meet up with Jeff and Linda, and travel together for awhile. 

We arrived at the Casino, I thought it was a good idea, based on the reports I read. Not so, as Monday afternoon rolled in, here came all the big rigs. 

Just what is Molted Sulfur - All within 30 yards of us

Molten Sulfur is a FLAMMABLE SOLID and a fire and explosion risk above 450 oF (232 oC). Sulfur is a COMBUSTIBLE SOLID. Use water spray to fight fires and to keep fire-exposed containers cool. POISONOUS GASES ARE PRODUCED IN FIRE, including Hydrogen Sulfide, Sulfur Dioxide and Sulfur Trioxide.

Next time, we will stay at a place I found and refueled 40Km's east of PG. 

Anyway, we have been inside Canada since June 7th, on DaRoad since Sun May 28. Total 17 days.

Well it really is June 6, as we sit in a parking lot, approximately  7 miles from the Roosville border crossing. 

Tuesday, June 7 is the day we will officially cross over. 

However, lets review the current stats as of today

Not as bad as we thought. Actuarially really good. Especially since we can now state, we have (will) traveled the whole length of US Hwy 93. Many of you would have remember the write up I did a few days ago. There were only a couple of spots which were slow and steady.  I will write about those later, along with a few photos. 

This blog is just a catchup on the stats since we left Show Low. 

By the way, Montana has these small casino's that have a bar and grill. This is named Four Corners Casino and Crossroads Grill. 

The food was excellent, the presentation amazing, the taste - Yes we would come back. But Also we are staying in the parking lot for the night

Our route when leaving Fredonia was on SR 389, and then transition to UT SR59

Arizona State Route 389, also known as SR 389, is a state highway in far northern Arizona serving the Arizona Strip. SR 389 stretches from the Utah border at Colorado City, southeast to Pipe Spring National Monument, and ends at U.S. Route 89A in Fredonia; it is the only major east–west route between these two towns, and also serves to connect Fredonia with points farther west such as St. George, Utah.

Utah State Route 59 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Utah. The highway connects Hurricane to the twin cities of Hildale and Colorado City, Arizona. The highway connects to US-89A through Arizona State Route 389.

The road from SR-15 (now SR-9 and SR-17) at La Verkin Junction south to Hurricane was added to the state highway system in 1912, and in 1914 it was extended southeast via Big Plain Junction to Arizona.[4][5] In the 1920s, the entire route was numbered State Route 16.[6] A connection from SR-15 (now SR-9) in Rockville south to SR-16 at Big Plain Junction became a state highway in 1925.[7] In 1927, SR-16 was moved to the Rockville-Arizona route, and the roadway between La Verkin and Big Plain Junctions became part of the new SR-17, which also went southwest from Hurricane to SR-1 (US-91, now I-15).[8] The Hurricane-Big Plain Junction branch was split from SR-17 in 1931, becoming a new State Route 59.[9] The entirety of SR-16 was deleted in 1935, permanently removing the Rockville-Big Plain Junction road from the state highway system;[10] the highway beyond Big Plain Junction to Arizona was also removed, but was re-added in 1941 as part of SR-59, forming the present extent of that route.[11] SR-59 was almost completed relocated in 1962, including a new crossing of the state line; it had ended at the west end of Uzona Avenue, which extends west along the border from Colorado City/Hildale, but now crosses within the city limits.[5] The connecting State Route 389 in Arizona was not added to that state's state highway system until 1959.[12]


Here is the one main thing to KNOW - there is little to NO cell phone service along this Highway. 

Anyway, we left around 8:40, Susan was driving with Dakota and Tilly providing the needed navigation.

It's always good when things comes together or better yet no issue. The into Utah was smooth and quite, very little traffic that time of the morning. The entrance into Utah was smooth and I had time for 1 photo:

Our arrival was around 1, MDST at the Elk's Lodge in St. George. Setup was easy and quick. Cost is $25 per night with Electric. Water and Dump site is available.

Our afternoon, took us into old town - to see some of the LDS history, however most of the building were closed. We also went to Pioneer park which was close by, and took a small hike around.
