My Turn - Puerto Penasco Sonora Mexico

So, I see Della has been posting what she has been doing. For a chocolate lab, she does a pretty good job of letting everyone know what is going on.
Not bad for a 14 year old. but now it is my turn.

So, where are we really, Puerto Penasco, AKA, Rocky Point, Sonora, MX. For those of you who have never driven to Mexico. This is the place to try, as it is only about 60 miles south of the Arizona border of Lukeville. About 5 hours from Phoenix by car. About 6 to 7 by RV.

Roads are good, people are friendly, and very safe. The biggest issue is Mexico insurance on both vehicles. Please if you drive in Mexico you need the insurance. next, water is ok, but there are many Helios stores in the area. Sam’s Club, Bordaga, SuperLey, ACE, and many other small stores.

There are 3 main Rv parks. Playa Bonita, Playa Del Oro and The Reef. All are full hooks. The Reef has 50 amps, Playa Bonita will install 50 amps on certain sites. There is also a dry camping area which is now open.

Puerto Penasco AKA Rocky Point came about in the 70’s and 80’s, many people from Az would head down here in the summer and stay nd enjoy the beach. In the mid 2000’s it starter becoming a hot spot for condos, resorts and hotels on the beach, and then the bust in 2007. It has never fully recovered. However, it is slowly making it’s way back to a strong Arizona influence especially for snow birds.

There are a few small caravans making there way here from Ajo, as this is close and easy to get there feet wet, so to say.

Ok, so what about the Rv parks. Playa Del Oro is manly older and has limited beach access. Playa Bonita, all the beach front sites are take up to 2019. There beach view sites aka in the center, they call view but really cannot sit and see the ocean. Then the outer wall. Playa Bonita seems to be the most busiest of the 3 for FHU sites. This is mainly due to being closer to town.

Now if you do not mind being a mile further out, there is The Reef, 50 amp FHU sites and larger sites. It is not as full, but has easy access to the town along with easy beach assess and views.

Susan and I are considering making a reservation at The Reef for next year if we can get the front row. We will also consider of leading a small group of Alfa’s who would like to come down.

Ok, a couple of Web Links to Read up on the Rv parks and Puerto Penasco.

Life in the Slow Lane or what goes on in my life

So, mommy, sharon and beth went to town without me. but daddy stay and we went for small walks and saw people. I laid on my bed outside for a long time until the sun was on me. Which then made me hot and i went inside.

daddy and david went off in kayaks and played in the water for a long time, but they came back. then he left me again, but came back. tilly was with me but she is no fun as all she does is laid on the chair and look outside for mommy.

last night we had sven, sharon, david and beth over for fun and talk. sven and sharon made dinner for everyone, while beth, david made a salad. mommy made a upside down pineapple cake or something like that.
they also had a fire going. my cousins did not come over as i was hoping for, but i stayed out for a long time on my bed which comes with me all the time.

So, where did we end up?

Someplace I love, Puerto Penasco, Sonora, MX. I l always love coming to the beach, with my sister, Koko. We would walk on the beach, go swimming and enjoin the sunsets. But know I can only go so far and mommy and daddy will not let me swim in the water. Something to do with getting an ear infection again.

I love the beach, walking, and getting pets from all the other humans staying here.

By the way, we had a good drive coming down, we got stopped and looked inside by this young lady border guard and then we had to stopped and a young food man was going to come inside and look around until he saw me laying on the floor. He was rude, he back out and said we could go. He did not even offer me a cookie.

So we left and continue on our journey to Puerto Penasco on the new toll road. The road was good and easy on me as daddy drove. He kept the AC on, so I would be cool and comfortable.

We got to Playa Bonita only to find there were a lot of RV’s here. But mommy found us a spot and we pull in and set up and I got comfortable.

Daddy went on a walk about today and took a few photos which I promised him he could put in my blog. Ok daddy you can post this and let everyone know I am having fun here in Puerto Penasco.

Oh, daddy bought a 12 pack of beer and it was only $8. Wow did he save a lot of money. Vanilla is only .50 for a 16 oz bottle. If you go to the super store and not the vendors on the street.

Picking up where we left off

Well, dag gum, what’s been going on. It’s been well over 2 weeks, since we have posted. Even Della has stopped for a while.

So, let’s get back to business.

First where are we, that’s a good question, our coordinates well at least some info:

2892 Crystal Lake Ave, Thermal, CA 92274, 33.330823, -115.950535.

Now for some direction: Coming from I-10, head south on 86 (west side of Salton Sea), just as if you are going to Borrego Springs. When you see the Red Earth Casino. Go 4 miles south and turn left on Mariner Dr. Stay on Mariner until you see sign for West Shores Marine and RV Park. Turn left. Turn left onto Ontario Dr. Then turn right onto Crystal lake ave. Go to end of road and there you will see over 20 sites for dry camping.

If you are in need to fuel, propane, water, dump, continue south on 86 to the AM/PM . Free water and dump.

So what is the draw at this time of year here? PPG. PPG, what the heck is PPG, you say? Power Para Glider, those things people strap or sit in and fly around.

It seems after a week of training and starting around $7000, you to can fly in a PPG and go to these fly ins. We heard from Irene that the Mercier’s and Caterson's were dry-camping here for a week. After learning of this area we decided to head out from Thousand Trail in Palm Desert to visit. Guess what, it has been over 5 days and we are still here.

Next thing we know Lisa and Norm roll in (well after a pancake enticement) and stayed for a couple of days before heading out to Borrego Springs. More on Borrego Springs later. But for now lets get into the photos shall we.
