Sept 27_Landing in Wichita Falls Texas

What a whirlwind journey, this last week has been.

We left Westminster, headed to Colorado Springs for 1 night and then onto Las Animas, Colorado. where we spent the night in the Colorado Springs Elks Lodge.

Susan called Becky and Jim and arranged for a lunch date. We spent the time going over what we have done and where we are going. But as in all things, time is too short, as Becky and Jim had a camping date with the grand-kids and needed to get going.

We left the next day, Saturday morning and headed to the town of Las Animas, Colorado via CO 94 (East) and then left onto CO 71 (south).

Where a very close friend has moved back to. After spending over 30 years in the Phoenix area she has decided to move back to her home town.

Susan and I could not miss out on the opportunity to stop and visit, especially since it was on the Road to Haslet, TX. Our stay here was lovely and quite. We were able to park between a football field and the Bend State Park.
We walked down to the town's small cafe, where we had breakfast/lunch. The food was good and not expensive. We talked about what drove the change and where we were all heading. We discussed children, grand children and mutual friends. We must have spend over 2 hours enjoying ourselves. In the end though it was time to leave and continue our journey to Amazon.

Both Susan and I agree on this, the town seems to agree with her and we know she will be happy here.  To everyone that knows Rose she is looking great and doing well.

So, back on the road to Haslet.

We continued our journey to Lamar on CO 71 and then headed south on Hwy 287. DaGirls plan, travel on Hwy 287 until we come to Wichita Falls. Then it is onto Bridgeport Texas for 2 weeks at a Thousand Trails CG, as we cannot arrive at our assigned campground until Oct. 12th, 2 days before our start date.

Along the way, we located a small town called Campo located in southeast Colorado:

DaGirls travels thru Colorado can be seen in the photos below:

But soon we spied a sign off in the distance:

Our stop for the night was a town just across the Colorado / Oklahoma  state line. A small town called Boise, OK. Susan located our spot in the Escapee’s Days End Camping list. Just behind the Dairy Queen. Our other choice would have been the Love’s truck stop just on the east side of town.
As you can see, we made a wise choice in our location.

Loves Truck Stop:

Behind the wooded fence behind DQ

Susan and I took a walk into town from the DQ. Being late Saturday afternoon, most of the town had closed down except for the DQ.

We are getting ready for the Luna Eclipse tonite (Sunday & Monday).

We awoke to cool weather and decided to head out early. First order of Business....Stop in at The Big Texan in Amarillo, Texas. The last time I was here, was in 1978.

We/I had a chance for a quick photo op:

When we got on the road, our plan was to lay over in Memphis, TX, for the night. However once we arrived, our decision changed. Onto Wichita Falls, where the city has a campground. For $17, you get a pull thru or back in site with water and electric, and you can dump either on the way out or coming in.

Sept 24th_Found Westminster Colorado

We left our safe haven, Riverside Park and continued our journey south on I-25. Today’s destination was a suburb just north of Denver called Westminster.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay, as the weather cooperated with DaGirls Rv. Except for the 1 or 2 trains in the distance it is a good 1 or 2 overnight stay. We managed to locate a good spot where our Satellite worked very well.
So, where are we heading today? DaGirls is continuing their journey south to Haslet, TX. We are heading to a Elks  lodge for a couple of days to visit friends and hopefully have full hookups for laundry.

The first decision was:

Which way to go?

As we traveled down the road, Susan continued to see Prong Horn along the highway. Me, I saw road, dried grasslands, cattle, snow breaks and other interesting and non-interesting sights. In fact, this is what I saw as we traveled down Interstate 25:

Then the next thing I spotted on our computer running Microsoft Streets & Trips:

The little Red Arrow within the Circle is DaGirls Rv.

Then the next thing you know is:

We had crossed into Colorado and were getting closer to our spot for the next 2 days:
What was our first clue we were in Colorado?  Traffic

And Cowboys and Cowgirls pushing cattle.

Sept 22_Traveling thru MT and WY

We left around 7:30 this morning with a stop at the Flying J for fuel and propane. Headed east on I-90 and then switch to I-25 at Buffalo, WY.

I started the drive the first 90 miles and then started looking for a pull out to switch. Wasn’t much of a pull out, but enough to switch, have breakfast and let Della and Tilly out for a walk. All in all this lasted about 20 minutes as we just take our time.

The day before during our travels, check out what we found out in the middle of nowhere in a grocery store at the intersection of 2 roads:

We found an Amish grocery store filled with goodies.

Once done shopping and eating our ice cream,  Susan slipped in the driver's seat and off we went. Along the way Susan kept making the comment, wow there are a lot of Prone Horn Antelope. By the time we switched driver's again, about 100 miles down the road, she must have seen over a thousand of the four legged animals, no kidding.

But at this pull out it was again lunch, snack, walk, water and hey, mom / dad don’t forget about our photo shoot. Remember you promised. Oh alright, girls, we remember, but this area is pretty bleak. Oh that's alright as long as Tilly and me are in the photo.

Our destination was the city of Douglas, WY. About 50 miles south of Casper, WY. Where? you might ask, a little city park located on the North Platte River. Hover over the Blue for a Web Link.

Our spot for the night, Riverside Park in Douglas, WY.

We settle in about 3 o’clock after taking on fuel, OUCH diesel was $2.74/gal. What a jump from MT. prices. But it is still Way below $4.00/goal.

While DaGirls rested in the grass,

I settle down to get rid of the bugs off the front of DaGirls Rv. I started cleaning DaGirls windshield and front using my special windshield concoction mixture:
Ani't she pretty!

I use a special mixture of H2O and Dawn Dish soap and a window squeegee. Lots of H2O is the key to easy bug removal including the front cap.

We did manage to walk and ride around town to see the sights, or what small sites there are. Douglas, WY, seems to have made it big in the Hunting department. Seems that there is an elusive animal in the area that the town has made it’s mascot.

As you drive around town you see places, signs and statues in place. It is difficult to understand how this animal got here from Arizona. However it did, the town has embraced it and taken it to the Heart of the City. Susan and I managed to catch a photo or two of the signs and statue.

I did manage to get a night shot of the famous animal that is the mascot of Douglas:

It is called a Jackalope
